Which driver type do you need?

Sri Lanka has three distinct roles, and booking sites use the words loosely. The difference is licensing: the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority trains and certifies chauffeur guides and national guide lecturers, while a tourist driver holds a standard driving licence. Drivers on this site submit their licence for review, and the type they hold is shown on their profile.

Tourist Driver

Holds a standard licence and drives your itinerary, handles logistics and knows where to stop, eat and stay.

Best for: Beach trips, transfers and travellers who like to read up themselves

Chauffeur Guide Lecturer

Licensed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, so they drive and also explain the sites you visit.
